Brookfield accessories are designed to be attached to an instrument to extend the measuring range of the instrument, or to accommodate certain requirements such as a small sample size, increased temperature ranges, etc.

  Small Sample Adapter (SSA)


SSA, with sample size less than 18mL, provides a coaxial cylinder geometry system for accurate viscosity measurements at specific shear rates and with rapid temperature control.

The Small Sample Adapter (SSA), consisting of a cylindrical sample chamber and spindle, provides a defined geometry system for accurate viscosity measurements of small sample volumes in the order of 2 to 16 mL at precise shear rates. The Small Sample Adapter's rheologically correct cylindrical geometry provides extremely accurate viscosity measurements and shear rate determinations.

The sample chamber fits into a flow jacket so that precise temperature control can be achieved when a Brookfield circulating temperature bath is used. Direct readout of sample temperature is provided using sample chambers with embedded RTD temperature sensors connected to the DV-I Prime (w/temperature option), DV-II+ PRO, or the DV-III Ultra. Working temperature range for the SSA is from -15°C to 100°C.

Disposable chambers for hard-to-clean materials and were designed to save clean-up time. Kit comes complete with 100 chambers and special size water jacket, Part No. SSA-DCU, and is available only for 13R Chamber. Additional chambers available in quantities of 100, Part No. SC4-13RD-100.

  Enhanced Ultra-Low Adapter (ULA)


The Enhanced ULA is a coaxial geometry system, which measures viscosity at defined shear rate and utilizes small sample size (16mL) for low viscosity fluids down to 1cP.

The NEW, Enhanced Brookfield UL Adapter is used with any standard Brookfield Viscometer and Rheometer to make accurate and reproducible measurements on low viscosity materials. Newtonian and non-Newtonian materials can be measured. It is most commonly used with the LV series instrument (at 60 rpm, these models have a full scale range of 1-10 cP with the UL Adapter).

The UL Adapter consists of a precision cylindrical spindle rotating inside an accurately machined tube. Its rheologically correct cylindrical geometry provides extremely accurate viscosity measurements and shear rate determinations. The tube has a removable end cap which allows the open ended tube to be used in a beaker or tank. With the cap in place, the closed tube can be immersed in a temperature bath or used with the ULA-40Y water jacket for precise temperature control. Working temperature range is from -15 °C to 100 °C.

  • Ideal for low viscosity materials
  • Stainless steel parts are easily cleaned

  DIN Adapter


The DIN Adapter Accessory (DAA) is a cylindrical spindle geometry that conforms to the DIN 53019 specification.

Three spindles and three chambers are provided. The DAA can be attached to any standard Brookfield Laboratory Viscometer/Rheometer.

  • Complies with DIN 53019 requirements for test geometry. DIN is the German equivalent to the U.S. ASTM Standards.
  • Designed to provide an alternative for those customers having limited sample volume. Requires 16 mL to 20 mL sample size.
  • Cylindrical geometry provides defined shear rates.
  • Comes with three spindles and two chambers for measurement range of 1 to 50,000 cP.

  High Temparature: Thermosel System


The Thermosel system uses coaxial cylinder geometry to measure liquids at high temperatures, up to 300°C.

The difficulty with viscosity measurements of hot melts and liquids at elevated temperatures has been in maintaining accurate temperature control that is consistent from sample to sample so that meaningful data could be obtained. The Brookfield Thermosel solves this problem by providing a stable, precisely controlled sample environment. This, together with the inherent accuracy of the Brookfield Viscometers, is fundamental to the Thermosel System, which produces viscosity measurements that are not only accurate but entirely reproducible.

  • Provides control of sample temperature up to +300°C
  • Programmable Controller offers single set point or up to 10 programmable set points. Temperature ramping between set points is possible if used with Rheocalc (DV-III Ultra) Software
    Note: Requires optional cable HT-106 when QC control with Rheocalc is implemented.
  • Compatible with standard Brookfield Viscometers and DV-III Ultra Rheometers
    Note: requires optional cable DVP-141 when controlled by DV-III Ultra Rheometer
  • Supplied with reusable stainless steel sample container and five disposable aluminum sample chambers
  • Outputs: 0-4 Vdc for chart recorder; RS-232 for use with DV-III Ultra and/or Rheocalc

Disposable sample chamber with Disposable Spindle SC4-27D* is ideal for asphalts or any difficult-to-clean material. Requires special adapter (SC4-DSY).
*Optional SC4-27D is available in quantities of 100, (SC4-27D-100). Also, solid shaft spindles are available.

  Helipath Stand


The Helipath Stand is designed for measurement of non-flowing substances such as gels, pastes, creams and putty using a T-bar shaped spindle.

The Brookfield Helipath Stand, when used with a suitable Brookfield Viscometer/Rheometer fitted with a special T-bar type spindle, will permit viscosity/consistency measurements in relative centipoise values for materials having characteristics similar to paste, putty, cream, gelatin, or wax.

  • Designed for viscosity/consistency measurement of gels, pastes, creams, putty, gelatin and other non-flowing substances.
  • A Brookfield Viscometer or Rheometer is mounted on the Helipath drive motor and a T-bar spindle is attached to the viscometer using a special coupling. The drive motor slowly lowers or raises the viscometer so that the T-bar spindle creates a helical path through the test sample thus eliminating the problem of "channeling".
  • Compatible with standard Brookfield Viscometers and DV-III Ultra Rheometers
  • Simple to set up and clean
  • Provides a solution for hard-to-measure materials

  Vane Spindles


Vane Spindles are used with paste-like materials and fluids with suspended particles; they provide defined viscosity measurement including yield stress values.

  Spiral Adapter


A pump-type sensor that directly measures viscosity of pastes.

Designed for measuring the viscosity of heavy paste-like materials and non-flowing products. Provides variable shear rates for detecting pseudoplastic and thixotropic behavior when used with standard Brookfield Viscometers and the DV-III Ultra Rheometer.

The Spiral Adapter has an inner, threaded spindle surrounded by a concentric outer cylinder. This combination causes the sample to be continually pumped up through the Spiral Adapter. The material reaches a steady state of flow during which viscosity is measured. The steady-state measurement is less sensitive to sample handling and minor material variations than other viscosity measuring methods.

At its various rotating speeds, the Brookfield Viscometer/Rheometer provides viscosity data at different shear rates. The resulting rheogram from an up/down speed ramp supplies important information on the psuedoplastic and thixotropic behavior of the test material.
